When I started crocheting, I looked for project's ideas on pinterest,
I wanted to make easy things for beginners, but at the same time I
needed to learn from them.
One of those projects I really wanted to make was the cozy mug, as I am a huge coffee drinker (don't juge me).
I
remember finding a picture of a cozy mug with rabbit ears and that I
felt sad when I saw it had no pattern to follow along. But you know
what? I decided to make my own by using the knowledge I had already
gathered by then.
And that is the pattern I am
presenting to you today, designed by myself, this cute little cozy mug
with rabbit ears that you will love having for yourself.
Let's get to it!

You will need:
- 2 balls of yarn of different colors: color 1 (here white) color 2 (here red)
- Crochet with a 4mm hook
- a button
- tapestry needle
- scissors
- pompon maker for the tail
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
rnd = round
Pattern:
Body of the cozy
Take color 1 and make a chain that fits the bottom of the mug.
sl st in the first st of the chain.
Ch2, hdc in every st. Sl st in the 1st hdc.
Make
another sl st in the next st. You have to switch the color now by
taking the color 2 instead of the 1, when you yarn over for the sl st.
(this will make a space for the handle)
Cut the color 1 yarn (we don't need it for now).
Ch1,
hdc around until you reach the last 2 st. You will make a hdc in the
one before the last and leave the last without making a hdc in it. (this
is also for the handle)
Ch1,
turn your work, hdc around. (never join rounds) Repeat this until you
reach the top of your mug (but it has to have enough space for 1 last
round).
For my mug, I needed 13 rounds of color 2.
In the last hdc of round 13, you change to color 1.
Ch1, turn your work, hdc around.
Once you reach the end of the round, we are going to make the strap for the button.
Chain
as much of stiches you need to reach the other side of your cozy. Use
your mug to measure the exact number of stiches you will need for the
strap.
I needed 16 stitches for my strap.
Sl st in the last hdc of your round. Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the strand of the yarn left.
Now you have to sew the button to the opposite side of the strap.
Make sure it fits well with your mug:
The Ears
Take color 2. Ch10
Hdc in the 2nd st from the hook. Hdc until the last stitch of the rnd.
In the last st, make 3 hdc.
Now make hdc around in the other side of the chain. Make only 1 hdc in the last stitch.
Ch 2, turn your work, hdc around. In the 2nd hdc of the 3 in the previous round, make 3 hdc to keep that curve at the side.
Hdc until the end of the rnd.
In the last stitch, change to color 1.
Ch2, turn your piece. Hdc around (make again 3hdc in the 2nd of the 3 from the previous rnd)
Hdc until the end of the round.
Here we are going to join with a slip stich in the 1st hdc of this round:
Cut the yarn by leaving a bit of it, to sew it to the body.
Make two ears:
Sew it to the cozy's body:
The Tail
Make a pompon with the pompon maker or else.
Sew it on the opposite side of the ears, make sure it is placed between the ears.
VoilĂ ! You finally have your cozy mug ready.
Make yourself some tea and relax now, you deserve it.
